In the last post we saw the relationship between fuel utilization (fats vs carbs) and exercise intensity, let’s go further!
What about the exact amounts of fat and carbs that you/a given athlete use when pedalling at a certain power for a certain duration? Would you like to have an estimation of how much kcal, fat and carbs are used during different efforts?
I spent the last year of my PhD at AUT Millenium of Auckland University of Technology, New Zealand. There I had the pleasure to meet Jeff Rothschild PhD, the Performance Nutritionist of High Performance Sport New Zealand and research associate at the Sports Performance Research Institute New Zealand (SPRINZ). You can find a lot of interesting things and get in touch with Jeff on his website.
Together with Jeff, we put together for you an energy expenditure and carbs calculator for cycling. You just have to put power output and duration of the effort and you will get kcal, carbs and fats used!
